Title and Author Information
Use Vellum’s Book Info pane to provide title, author, and other information about your book.
The values provided here will be included in your eBook’s metadata, information that is embedded in the eBook files generated by Vellum and used by both stores and reading devices.
The Title, Subtitle, Author, and Publisher will also be used by Vellum to automatically create your book’s Title Page.

Accessing Book Info
To access and edit Book Info, select your book’s title at the top of the Navigator:
If it's not already showing, select the Book Info tab:
The following values are included in your eBook’s metadata and are used by Vellum to automatically create your book’s title page:
Vellum’s Preview will show you your book’s Title Page whenever you select Book Info.
Title, Subtitle, and Author
The Title, Subtitle, and Author values you declare here are used to:
- Create your book’s Title Page (as seen above)
- Declare your book’s metadata, which affects how your book is displayed in a reader’s library.
- Construct filenames for the eBook files generated by Vellum
Because your book’s title has multiple uses, we recommend specifying it in title case (e.g. “The Invisible Man” instead of “THE INVISIBLE MAN.”). When displayed on the Title Page, the title and author are automatically set in upper case.
If you use a 1-Book or 10-Book Package, the Title, Subtitle and Author will be locked when you activate eBook generation. Vellum will prompt you first so that you have a chance to review these values. You can read more about this in the Purchasing FAQ.
Use this section to list any other contributors to your book. For instance, you may want to add additional authors, or credit a translator or editor. To add a contributor, click the + button and enter a name in the newly-created fields:
If you’d like to change the role of the contributor, click on the Author label to the left of the text fields. This will bring up the role popup menu:
Contributors listed here will be included both in your eBook’s metadata and on the Title Page.
It is not necessary to list a publisher, but if you are working with one or you have your own publishing company, you can include that information here.
When you add a Publisher Logo, the Publisher name specified in the field above won't be shown on the title page. Instead, that value will be used in your eBook’s metadata, and will serve as a description for the image.
Specify a Publisher Link and the publisher information shown on the title page will take the reader to that website.
You can remove the image used for your publisher logo by clicking on the image with the Option key held down.
The following values are not shown on your book’s title page, but are included in your eBook’s metadata.
Use this control to specify the language in which your book was written.
Vellum will translate certain key terms (e.g. “Chapter”) for French, Italian, German, and Spanish. However, if you choose another language from the popup menu, Vellum will display the Edit Terminology button.
Clicking on this button will bring up the Terminology sheet (also accessible from the Chapter > Terminology… menu item):
Use this to enter your own translations for element types or for introductions of additional contributors, like translators and illustrators.
Terms don’t have to be foreign words. Prefer the word Section to Part? Simply change your Part term rather than giving all of your Part elements new titles.
Online stores do not require an ISBN to list an eBook, so this field is optional. If you have acquired an ISBN to assign to your eBook, however, you can list it here.
In addition to being included in your eBooks’s metadata, any ISBN you specify here will automatically be appended to your book’s Copyright page.
This value is only included in the iBooks-specific eBook generated by Vellum. It is optional, but can be used assign a specific number (like 1.0) to a version of your book.
Once you assign a version, you will need to increment this value (to 1.1, then 1.2, etc.) every time you upload an updated eBook to the iBooks Store.
