Configuring Content

Paragraphs in a Written Note can be formatted independently. Each paragraph will be Indented by default, but you can assign a different alignment or inset amount.

As shown above, you can Right align a letter’s date and Left align its salutation. And you can use the Deep Inset option for a letter’s closing.

You can make these assignments using the popup menu to the right of each Written Note paragraph in the Text Editor:

Styling

By default, when the note appears in your book, it will use a cursive, “handwritten” font

You can find more font options in the Written Note section of Styles:

Variants

If your book contains correspondence between characters, you might want to use different styling for the notes from each character. You can choose between three different Variant options in the Written Note gear menu:

Once you’ve assigned Variants to Written Notes, you can go to Styles to configure the appearance of each Variant:

This feature was added in Vellum 3.8. Make sure you are up-to-date.

Keep Lines on Same Page

It’s possible for a page break to occur within the middle of a Written Note. If you’d prefer this not happen, you can make use of Keep Lines on Same Page, accessible from the gear menu:

With Keep Lines on Same Page enabled, the entire letter will stay together on the same page of your book.

Note: Keep Lines on Same Page is not supported by Kobo or Google Play. Vellum’s Preview will reflect this.
